-- The Strangeness of Intimacy --
John Herlihy
There can be a strangeness to intimacy,
That no one has ever experienced before.
A stranger suddenly in the mist, a mystery,
Inviting one closer, beckoning, asking for more.
The veil of the everyday unexpectedly lifted,
A rare and unique invitation quietly gifted.
To reveal the intensity of love in all its richness,
The freedom to step inside a world of infinite caress.
Senses there at the helm, ready to take it all in,
Intimacy to find fulfillment thru seeing and touch.
In pursuit of a desire far beyond the urges of whim,
Aromas of taste and scent there to expose so much.
The intimacy in the hushed silence of a forest glade,
That enters the soul with its miracle of presence.
The nearness of the distant sunset now reduced to shade,
That lingers in the heart with the beauty of its essence.
The childlike magic of the nighttime firefly,
That illuminates the darkness of night with its glow.
A ladybug on a leaf, the beauty of a hovering butterfly,
Thrilling us with the intimacy of all that they know.
The senses rush into places where the mind hides;
Face to face with frank intimacy, only truth abides.
The throbbing neck, the trembling lips, the veined wrist;
There in the strangeness of intimacy, waiting to be kissed.
