-- This Marriage Profound --
John Herlihy
Sound nowhere, nothing;
Silence everywhere, everything.
Filling the empty spaces,
with something akin to fulness.
Silence surrounds,
But sound abounds.
Sound heard,
But silence preferred.
Silence can be silenced,
When good words need be said.
Sound needs to be silenced,
When bad words are said.
Sound wades in the shallows of time
Silence lies in the ocean of eternity
Clatter heard in driving rain
Peace found in falling snow
The silence pervasive,
The sound invasive.
Silence has no voice,
In sound we rejoice.
Sound tense,
Silence immense.
The world resonates,
Silence contemplates.
Silence nowhere, nothing,
Sound everywhere, everything.
Filling the silent spaces
with something akin to fulness.
Silence is filled
with loneliness and longing.
Sound is filled
With togetherness and belonging.
Sound can have too much voice,
Silence has just enough voice.
Sound as vibration felt,
Silence as perfume smelt.
The cacophony of sound
Gives way to the harmony of silence.
Silence in the starry sky will ever last,
As eternal as the infinite is vast.
In the heart, emotions stirred,
Sound as echoes heard.
In the depths, silence found,
In this marriage profound.
