-- Some Dreams --
John Herlihy
Some dreams we dream will never come true ,
Dreams of the night that we never fully knew.
Born again in the deep, dark cavern of despair,
Dreams of frustration and failure beyond repair.
Some dreams we dream arrive as birds in flight,
Their humming wings stir the hush of midnight.
The glory of this wakeful dream will hold us aloft,
Flying through alien worlds until its landing soft.
Some dreams we know might surely come true ,
Dreams of the day that we always and ever knew.
Born in the heart of a flower or the deep blue sky,
Dreams full of fantasy that emerge from on high.
Some dreams see a rare face in every bud and leaf,
Dreams of the loved one to bring a sense of relief.
Some dreams have a stillness only in nature heard,
The dreams of children echo the laughter of a bird.
Some dreams are dreams that we will never sew,
Dreams in another’s fabric we could never know.
Born in another country from some fearful tragedy,
Dreams of hope and renewal carved from mystery.
Some dreams as night phantoms worth forsaking,
Born in the darkness of midnight that induce fear.
Some dreams as moons on the horizon, awakening,
While others pierce the heart with a sharpened spear.
All dreams stem from the depths of humanity’s well,
That flow through us as rivers their inspiration to tell.
When the dreams fade, we will see life as it really is,
The dreams fall into their wonderland of evanescence.

Dreams are harbingers of life.
Don't trust them too much.
But we can't capture all dreams, can we.
