-- SnowLight --

John Herlihy

The stately descent of a great white world,

The humble consent of a stark winter world.

Snow descends from heaven, each of us knows,

Its silence instills lasting peace as the heart glows.

The white frosty world of morning decked in lace,

The mill pond frozen over with its beard of ice.

The sun never did rise up over the earth’s brim,

Trees weighted with the burden of snow’s whim.

Then filling in the sky, a faint glow, a blue haze,

Shining like the Northern Lights as we gaze.

The wind scattered snow devils before the eyes,

And raised white sails that blew in the skies.

Snow light as a lighted city beyond the mountains,

As more snow fell to earth from celestial fountains.

What a beautiful presentation of one of Nature's most creative and lovely things. I especially like the title.

Of late, you've given a great deal of interpretation of seasons, and particularly, winter. Perhaps that is obvious leaning, given the season we're all experiencing, but you seem to be mining your lexicon for deeper meanings. Some readers are getting it, others... well there are others. Your sense of nature abounds with declarative understanding beyond most writers' perception. As in this poem, beneath the indicative mood, there is a greater pursuit. Interesting for me to follow your journey.

THERE IS NOTHING SO GORGEOUS AS A FRESH SHOWFALL...TOUCHED BY NOTHING BUT LIGHT! IN THE WINTER OF 2010 WASHINGTON DC HAD A TERRIFIC SNOW STORM. I REMEMBER COMING OUT OF THE SHELTER AND JUST STANDING THERE, SPEECHLESS...AT THE MARVELOUS WONDERLAND THAT SURROUNED ME. GLISTENING AND SO BEAUTIFUL! FANTASTIC PHOTO...ENJOYED THIS SHARING IMMENSELY, THANK YOU, JOHN. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...HIS+INSPIRATIONS

I love the way you give snow a candescent beauty , only your pen can do that, aside from the realism of snow. Thanks for the beauty John

Celestial fountains. . . I like that. Blizzards can surely feel like fountains. ‘Stately’ and ‘great white world’ are good descriptives. ~~ djl
