-- Our Changing Moods --
John Herlihy
When our moods come upon us, we can never resist,
Flashing as shadows or rainbows that never persist.
An unexpected event occurs to make us feel moody;
The simple scent of a flower can make us feel woozy.
A wayward hope beams clear with its startling vision;
An insistent moment arrives we must make a decision.
Who can account for all the daily moods that emerge;
Conflicting moods with the power our hearts to purge.
All those successes and failures, the joys and sorrows;
All the empty hours filled with our moody tomorrows.
Yet few moods persist in the presence of sea and sky;
Their boundlessness felt within us as an endless sigh.
The one faithful mood where we never felt betrayed;
One enduring mood as light in the soul that stayed.
