- Where I Have Never Gone --
John Herlihy
I always wish to go where I have never gone,
Gone into secret places that eluded the fawn.
Taken by the hand into dreams that never die,
On solitary roads with promises that never lie.
In my worst nightmares, I end up standing still,
Alone, in silence, wondering where is the thrill.
Even when making plans, I still feel on the move,
Riding down highways already in future’s groove.
For some, travel is passion, but for me travel is lust,
Drawn into its deepest temptations as only I must.
Let me die on the road, so the road may never end,
Let me die going somewhere, and not just pretend.
The life I lived could have kept me quietly at home,
Instead of flying as a bird over landscapes unknown.

I am grateful for the few places that I have been able to go. Fortunate to go in many cases, during the off tourist season when everything is more accessible and the real place more available. I hand I would give to anyone going to the most traveled places in the world. National Geographic takes me to the places I have never gone and never will.
