-- Solitude – John Herlihy Solitude I am a book of solitude. The book also a solitude. Then we meet, the book and I. In these books, solitudes meet. Solitude Drawn into himself in solitude. Another within herself in solitude. The two of them meet, fall in love. Two solitudes as one plenitude. Solitude In solitude we are not alone. Solitude a presence within us. Here, there, in truth everywhere. Seeing the invisible, hearing the inaudible. Solitude Teaches us how to explore. Into realms of the unknown. A presence on my inner shore. Only in the realm of solitude. Solitude The soul finally speaks to us. Rare intimacies can be heard. Echoes in a forest of cathedral halls. Whispers in the wind of feathers. Solitude Nothing and no one to fear. No need to be doing something. No one else to amuse or judge. No one, only the heart to sing. Solitude I am comfortable being alone. No friend as friendly as solitude. Friendly friends make demands. Faithful solitude makes no demands. Solitude Who knows what true solitude is? Only the man who enters its realm. A feeling free, suffering no qualms. Just whisper to solitude: How sweet. Solitude We come into this world alone. We take leave of this world alone. Along the way, moments of solitude. Painful in youth, soothing in old age. Solitude On our own, we live easily in solitude. In the crowd we must find our solitude. There, lying within us, the crowd at bay. How perfect the liberation of solitude. Solitude In the end, we always return to solitude. Our faithful friend, lying quietly in wait. Patiently, forbearingly, inviting us in. JOHN, THIS IS ENTIRELY TRUE! I THINK THIS IS WHY COVID DID NOT HAVE AN IMPACT ON ME IN THE WAY THAT IT AFFECTED SO MANY OTHERS. I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN COMFORTABLE BEING ALONE. AND I GUESS THIS IS BECAUSE, IN MY SOLITUDE...I HAVE NEVER REALLY FELT ALONE. REFLECTING BACK I SEE THAT JESUS HAS ALWAYS BEEN THERE...EVEN FROM A CHILD. AMEN. BRAVO! Like you, I enjoy my solitude to be able to read, write and think without the constant chatter of people around me making demands on my time for their routines.

I particularly like how you described having a relationship with another who is in solitude without ever meeting are getting in each other's way. I have experienced that and find it quite enjoyable.

You leave a lot to think about this stoic practice of being alone. We are lucky if we can find it admit the cacophony of the world around us. Kudos.

After a lifetime of business and personal socializing, for the past 18 years, I've known of what you so eloquently expressed in this poem of wisdom and authenticity.
