-- Intimacy – John Herlihy Intimacy An exotic animal, rare, unique In deep recesses of the heart found Delicate emotions thru a sieve seep Two minds as one heart inward bound Intimacy In the state of complete undress No barrier, no falsehood in between Closeness as a form of art blessed As sculptured bodies gleam Intimacy A secret nobody else knows Never spoken, never heard A realm where gentle wind blows Whispers of a beautiful bird Intimacy Under stars in the darkened sky A closeness impossible to bear Let the outer world die Only the mystery of stars to share Intimacy In the narrow confines Everything is bigger, more grand This union of two as one, sublime What lies beyond at our command Intimacy The feeling of being wanted As if lifted out of despair Such dream mist as if haunted A once in a lifetime moment, rare Intimacy No distance, no shore When heaven and earth kiss The blue sky captured and more The meeting of minds as bliss Intimacy A closeness ever more close Wrapped in a cocoon of loving trust Such sweet nectar, dose by blessed dose Exotic perfumes of lavender and musk Intimacy Nearer to you than your jugular vein We are as one, you and I May we ever in this realm remain Together as we live, as we die. - - - - - - Copyright © John Herlihy Sunday 29 May 2022

You have spoken the intimate truth that is often displayed in nature even when a mate is swiftly killed after mating. The intimacy involved is obvious. Many times, long, elaborate courtship is required before intimacy is sealed and mating can begin. Your poem leans towards the human intimacy that we all know and feel "once-in-a-lifetime," if it all.
