-- Still Unfinished --
John Herlihy
Figment of imagination,
Product of incarnation.
Shaped by the softest clay,
To dance in life’s ballet.
Carved from rough stone,
Enveloped in solid bone.
Parts of a life finished,
The hours now diminished.
Sweet childhood long gone,
Adolescence a sounded gong.
Maturity glows as ripened fruit,
Life’s music played on a lute.
Time finally reveals its age,
Thoughts turn wise as a sage.
Rhythms diminish as unresolved,
Bells still sing, a puzzle unsolved.
We pass away, still unfinished,
The ending sudden, finished.
