-- Sing to Me of Happiness –

John Herlihy

Keep a little fire burning, I will, I will,

Darkness unending, in darkness still.

A little hearth burning, beat by beat,

My little heart yearning, love to meet.

Keep a secret, never told, never told,

Promise and trust, not ever to unfold.

Keep your promises, never to break,

Your faith in another will soon awake.

Keep doors open, ever ajar, ever ajar,

Hope shines forth in the light of a star.

Save a little, another day, another day,

For whatever we want, we must pay.

Sing to me of happiness, I listen, listen,

Joys entitled to, tears glisten, glisten.

I found myself skipping along through this poem. It's sense of joy was omnipresent.

What a lovely and refreshing poem today! Either from a bird or a human point of view.

It's hard for me to understand how you can come up with all of these highly structured poems every day without fail. Sometimes I miss my poem of the week when circumstances don't allow me complete it.

I'm in love with your piece. the title hooked me in and reading through it made me feel uplifted. thank you. i especially love this line: Your faith in another will soon awake, it rings very true to me, and a great reminder to practice it as well. Having faith in others gives them the strength to believe in themselves.

Such a sweet little thing and so cute in the picture! Its voice sure helps you to feel happy. Listen, it is echoing.

Yes, your picture says so much to complement the poem. Then there is the enigmatic voice of both one's inner voice, and those many voices nature offers us. I often think what songs might I hear were I deaf. Your words here brought back that thought.
