-- Whispers –
John Herlihy
I hear whispers at dawn, the first bird,
Whispers at dusk, last voice heard.
Tempting whispers, enticingly lure,
Evil whispers that somehow endure.
Idle whispers that roam the mind,
Purposeful whispers far from kind.
Never hear speech everyone knows,
Listen to what whispers disclose.
Whispers of instinct that simply know,
Whispers of conscience the winds blow.
Conscious whispers ever ready to seek,
Unconscious whispers mysteries to keep.
Whispers that strum on strings of the blues,
Whispers that provoke us with their rouse.
I listen to whispers that hold me high, aloft,
Willowy whispers that feel tender and soft.
Whispers leave the place of silence broken,
As moonlight keep the dark night awoken.
Whispers of hate and whispers of love,
Rising from below, falling from above.
Melancholy whispers through the pines,
Touching random emotions in our minds.
Whispers in the hearts of angels and men,
Whispers heard of the end of time – amen.
