--Those Distant Stars --

John Herlihy

We gaze upon those distant stars,

Not for warmth but their coldness.

Stars uncountable and unreachable,

We admire them for their boldness.

Ah those stars, what do they mean,

Twinkling against the plate of night.

Remote and distant, yet they gleam,

Across light years as flecks of light.

We sense a loveliness untouchable,

Content with their touch, caressed.

Conveying such mystery unattainable,

From our eyes to our heart blessed.

On a journey thru time immemorial,

Bestowing on us their wise tutorial.

John,Recently I wrote a review for "Those Distant Stars." Afterwards, I saw some mistakes, removed the review in its entirety to make corrections, then tried to paste the review back to its proper place. However AD would not allow me to paste it. Below I have written everything I said in the review. Will you please copy everything I said in the review, plus everything I have said in this message and paste it all in the review section of your poem, "Those Distant Stars"? Thank you! David Lee Thompson

Many times, on a clear, nighttime sky, I have gazed upon the vastness of our universe and thought of there being no end to it all, and it makes me feel of little importance. I love the two lines, "Conveying such mystery unattainable, From our eyes to our heart blessed." Words that touch my soul like those above do not come my way often, but when they do, I like to commit them to memory. But advancing years and a failing memory work as a team to break my spirit daily. Still I fight to try and leave a small part of myself to the literary world, and to my sons, grandsons, and a great-grandson who may never know me otherwise. Thank you, John for "Those Distant Stars." From my eyes to my heart blessed. David Lee Thompson

A common theme for you. Perhaps because you spent so much time in that nighttime pallet with a formless desert below, a very clear sky except for the atmosphere that creates the twinkling effect that everyone notices. I guess it's the silence, the utter silence, that sets the mind or wondering why there are so many little points of light: some of them colored, some larger and some smaller, some brighter and some, dimmer. But altogether, so many that it makes the Milky Way turn white in the sky and the mind unable to calculate the number

A whole lot to wonder about and to make poetry like yours come to mind.

Your poem suggests to this reader the sense of interminable reach to exercise our imagination in the hope of a sensorial realization confirming humankind is a part of everything. Perhaps it is possible to say we are only limited by our willingness to give our imagination free reign and allow the oneness of it all to sink in.
