-- Living the Dream --

John Herlihy

We all wish that our dreams will come true ;

Many dreams disappear in the reality we knew.

Impossible dreams that go into that good night;

Possible dreams that bask in the glow of moonlight.

Our future laced with dreams that arise unbidden;

Childhood dreams, adult dreams, dreams forbidden.

Our hopes sometimes pinned to dreams impossible;

Other hopes travel roads to dreams made possible.

Young people dream dreams, the old see visions;

Some dreams became realities thru clear decisions.

The dreams of long ago have now been realized;

Dreams that in the past were only conceptualized.

What is the dream and what the true reality;

Perhaps we are living a dream seen in life’s mystery.

The mystery of nocturnal slumber: that we awaken;

The mystery of life’s dream: that we are not forsaken.

The dreams within our dream a call to arms,

Stirring our hearts to action with sacred psalms.

All intertwined in the web of mystery that is life,

Until we awaken to the sounds of drum and fife.

Life the ultimate dream that we know as true ;

As dawn mystifies the earth with morning dew.

To have lived and died, from a dream to awaken,

Back into the fold of the one true Reality taken.
