Perhaps its greatest power is the telling a lover after with one's thumping chest, how great that love was. Otherwise, the heart is probably the best pump ever devised. Beating tirelessly right up to the very point of death. So many beats in a lifetime. Almost every creature has one, large or small, making sure that every part of the body is nourished.
