-- Our Own Domain --
John Herlihy
The problem staring us in the face,
We are locked in our own domain.
Each a member of the human race,
Life complicated, but this fact plain.
Better called an eminent domain,
Consciousness in a body of clay.
Water and clay in a life to remain,
A brief interlude, a destiny to play.
With a fearful sense of being alone,
Ever in search of someone to love.
Ever in doubt, feeling on one’s own,
Under wide open blue sky far above.
Emotions spill over the cup’s brim,
Happiness, sadness, loneliness, despair.
The past all too clear, the future dim,
Each day begins in the form of a prayer.
Now with a new form of believing,
The world grown up and come of age.
No more lies, deception, disbelieving,
Understanding the world as a sage.
Beliefs leading into an alternate domain,
One with a power mind/heart to uplift.
With future life never to be the same,
From a mire of uncertainty, upward drift.
Not to abandon worlds of the physical,
So as to embrace worlds of the spiritual.
But to see deep within the physical world,
The uplifting spirit of the spiritual world.
To make our own domain exclusively ours,
To nurture body and spirit as unified whole.
To endeavor to reach lofty heavenly towers,
The polish thru effort the perfection of soul.

I beg to differ with you on that last stanza. I think there is any "perfecting" of our souls. Our souls, just are. We created them throughout our lives.
