Why do people fall in love
As if a blessing, from above?
Why does twilight stir a breeze,
Caressing day’s dying light with ease?
Why do moonflowers open at eventide,
Seeking in the night’s heart to reside?
Why is the night so very very dark,
Not illuminated by even a single spark?
Why does the darkness awaken the owl,
Voices of wolves at the moon howl?
Why do stars come out at night,
But to remind us of the light?
Why has the moon such glow,
I
ts subtle mysteries to bestow?
Again: Why do people fall in love,
As if falling from heaven above??
Yes, there in the darkness of night,
This feeling of life, of love, of light.

We humans have prolonged that hormonal charge so that it is year-round and lasts for many years. It is both a great pleasure and a great curse. Depending on how we look at it.
I've never heard of moon flowers, only flowers that close up for the night. But I will look them up and see if they exist.
