-- The Story of Life --
by John Herlihy
The arrival of the dawn
The veil of night drawn
As turning a new page
An infant with no age
The arrival of twilight
The veil of light drawn
Night a different page
Another day now gone
We ourselves into life ride
Not even know we be born
Boldly into our life we stride
Suddenly from eternity torn
We face our ups and downs
We patiently await tomorrow
All the while smiles and frowns
Minutes and hours on borrow
Often, we wonder who we are
We question what’s it all about
The answer is both near and far
While we pour from life’s spout
At times, we know who we are
We exalt, we rejoice, we shout
In the glow of the North Star
All of our miseries flee in rout
Remember days full of smiles
Happiness appears from mist
Running the rhythm of miles
At the end of the day, kissed
Remember days full of frowns
Everything goes against the grain
Murmuring a requiem of sounds
As moon’s phases wax and wane
And so the story of life goes on
Riding the betwixt and between
Days with both dusk and dawn
Mystery there behind a screen
