-- The World of Wonder -- by John Herlihy Nothing left to chance in a magical performance, Never look askance if the challenge be enormous. We wander through life’s maze wearing a disguise, Wishing to find our way, endeavoring to improvise. Who needs the truth if armed with the truth of lies, Who needs reality when illusion offers enough disguise. Why pretend to be lost when in fact we are found, We seek a freedom that knows no authentic bounds. Do you settle for facts when below the surface lies mystery, Are you content with the mundane when everywhere lies beauty. Are we satisfied with answers to the wrong questions, Do we suffer painful emotions found in life’s rejections. Lift the veil to find the meaning of where and when, What never happened, will happen, might have been. Shine a flashlight into darkness to see what is to be seen, Face life’s unknown mysteries to discover what they mean. We think, wonder, imagine, in the end we make choices, We listen carefully to the sound of myriad voices. WHY DO WE APPRECIATE THE DARK? BECAUSE IT MAKES US APPRECIATE THE 'LIGHT' EVEN MORE!!! DARKNESS HAS A PURPOSE. THE WONDERS OF THIS WORLD...MAKES ONE 'PANT' FOR THE ALL THE ANSWERS THAT WILL BE FOUND IN THE NEXT. This poem makes me feel like I'm floating, unsure where reality is, or if my values were as good as I thought. Lots of questions...and as life would have it, not so many real answers.

The wonder of it all too is retained by wise pondering, as you have done here. I've always known (since I was a very young child) that God is on this journey with me, and that nothing, as yet, is in its true form. Thanks, John. Enjoyed pondering this. r

A very good reason for scientific inquiry.

Your poem poses a lot of inquiry for both "you" and "we."

No one would want to be, "lost in a cruel world," but so many on this world are. This "world of wonder." So sad to see them not being able to enjoy their time here before they die.

Yes, chaos, noise and fragmented information, knowledge and quasi-wisdom is slowly smothering the planet along with climate change.
I would take this part of your poem and use it as a reminder: "Why pretend to be lost when in fact we are found, We seek a freedom that knows no authentic bounds."

I continue to be, and have been for a long time, a believer in much of what David Brooks explored in his incredible article in the Times. (Se. my posting of "Creation's Perpetual Harvest" where I make almost a begging plea for everyone who is a writer.

Anyway, your posit of healthy thinking and doing is unfortunately mostly lost on the general public who have chosen to follow demagoguery that can't be compatible with your insightful thoughts.
