-- Compassion --
by John Herlihy
Compassion is found in the outpouring of soul,
In the life of each individual playing a vital role.
In the face of hopelessness, the sad eye pleads,
In the cave of sorrow, the unhappy heart bleeds.
Human awareness that runs as deep as a river,
Sympathy for those suffering to make us shiver.
She told me a sad story that brought on tears,
She wiped her face in a gesture beyond her years.
She gave the poor homeless man something to eat,
Brought a smile to his face, increased his heartbeat.
When she passed by, she gave him a ten-dollar bill,
She took his picture eating a sandwich, his face still.
One day, when she arrived, he was no longer there,
Holding a twenty in her empty hand, willing to spare.
Compassion, indeed, was an outpouring of her soul,
Her kindness written in gold ink on her life’s scroll.

My partner has found that even giving homeless people very good food, they will often reject it, along with clothing. Instead, they welcome cash, because they can use it to buy the next bottle of wine, booze or the street drugs they are hooked on. Helping those with addictions do not help them if it's in money.
Where is the compassion for those in Gaza when we give money and arms to Israel to wipe them out in the latest version of genocide? Hitler had the Jewish problem. Now, Israel's Prime Minister Netanyahu has a Hamas problem. What is the difference?
