-- Rhythms of Our Days --

by John Herlihy

Rhythms of our days beyond compare,

Each of our moments lived as a prayer.

Songs of life in rhythms of our breath,

Heart melodies denoting life and death.

The sun with rhythm that rises and sets,

Following universal law with no regrets.

The moon’s rhythms, each day a phase,

First waxing, then waning in lunar days.

Celestial rhythms found in orbiting earth,

Our neighboring planets, each with worth.

Rhythm of stars found in their harmonies,

Their unknown secrets reveal mysteries.

Back here on earth, we need not go far,

Trusted rhythms hold earth’s door ajar.

Mimicking miracles in celestial heights,

The glorious interplay of days and nights.

Tidal rhythms witnessed in ebb and flow,

Spring rains in contrast to winter snow.

Courage over cowardice negate any fears,

Rhythms of joy and sorrow invoke tears.

Forget not rhythms of a beating heart,

As steady and sure, creating life as art.

Between dawn and dusk, rhythms of day,

The nocturnal rhythms of the Milky Way.

Reminded daily of balance and harmony,

Enhanced by the signs of nature’s beauty.

Behold a rainbow and we hold our breath,

Four seasons mimic cycles of life and death.

Then there are...
Rhythms that pound away in my chest
Some so quiet I get no rest.
They say a strong heart is one that takes a licking
But instead of quitting it keeps on ticking.
I like your rendition better.

I guess that's why we love poetry and song. They mimic the rhythms and flow of life that's built into every one of us from our very nature, our very beginning.

You Look FatCalgary by RickthePoetWarrior

Using Calgary as a backdrop the author satirizes the self-serving nature of the public as it continues to fatten itself, not only physically, but egotistically as well.
