-- In the Passing of Night Hours --
by John Herlihy
The rhythms of ebb and flow found in day and night,
Every day features noon and every night midnight.
Night now descended with its curtain of darkness,
The scimitar of moon cutting with edgy sharpness.
I heard melodic waves of a flute rising from the ground,
Melancholy notes lending feelings of the sweetest sound.
Uncanny music stealing into my heart with its rhythms,
Slivers of moonlight dance on waters as if thru prisms.
The night behaves as if in this world it has nary a care,
Its predilection for silence initiates feelings for prayer.
The occasional cry of nature only heightens the stillness,
In the passings of night hours, a sense of peacefulness.
The wind chimes whisper secrets with evocative charm,
The parlor clock continues to tick without causing harm.
Let the hours pass as they may until they come to an end,
I for one appreciate every moment night offers as friend.
