-- Looking for Things --
by John Herlihy
Looking for things and then finding them,
The future arrives both where and when.
Looking for happiness and finding sorrow,
To wait patiently until it passes by tomorrow.
Looking for courage and finding cowardice,
Have all my efforts come to nothing but this?
Looking for patience, finding only impetuosity,
To unveil the beauty at the heart of mystery.
Looking for a soulmate and finding only solitude,
Finding in quiet silence the fullness of plenitude.
Looking for friendship and finding only strangers,
Who can we trust amid all the world’s dangers.
Looking to set ourselves free, but feeling the slave,
To our ambitions, to our illusions, our mind a cave.
We look for things only to find other things instead,
Our desires serve as a tale we have often misread.

But goals and stuff of little substance but greed can make a life miserable and in need.

To our ambitions, to our illusions, our mind a cave.

As you know by now, I'm a fanatic with word play that uses abstract as well as reality to convey a point. The combination you've chosen to use here is most appropriate. Steller work, once again.
