-- Honest Suffering --

by John Herlihy

Is there such a thing as honest suffering?

Hardship and sorrow our destiny may bring.

Things happen that we have somehow earned,

Experiences endured for the knowledge learned.

No one has said that life would be a bed of roses,

The unexpected happens more than anyone supposes.

The ebb and flow of the tide brings its own prayer,

The phases of the moon bear a message to take care.

The world beats a fine rhythm that no one can escape,

Harmony born of low and high notes beauty to create.

Found in this world filled with suffering and serenity,

Bound together by an abiding faith in life’s mystery.

Suffering always honest, it could never be otherwise,

Incomparable knowledge conveyed, making us wise.

SAYING, 'OUCH', WHEN IT HURTS IS A PRIVILEGE...ONE THAT WE SHOULD NOT LET GO OF, BUT EMBRACE WHOLEHEARTEDLY. HOWEVER, I WOULD WARN...TAKE CARE OF 'HOW' YOU EXPRESS IT AND...'TO WHOM' YOU EXPRESS IT BECAUSE 'WISDOM' IS ALWAYS THE KEY TO NOT FOSTERING ADDITIONAL REGRETS. GOOD WORK, THANKS. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...HIS+INSPIRATIONS.

For a period there is peace but when the blows come they come like chain punches. One either gives up or is made stronger. Much wisdom here.

Yes, we never know when the next bad blow will come along in a form we never expected. But we roll with the punches and try to move on and do better while being as honest as possible about it.

Especially the elderly are susceptible. Recently I heard from the mainstream bad news that most retirees these days out live there retirement nest egg like my parents did while being very frugal near the end.

This offering, John, is to me a potpourri of lotus blossoms. Many lines exude the perfume, and a few of the best are: “Experiences endured for the knowledge learned.” and “The unexpected happens more than anyone supposes.” and “The world beats a fine rhythm that no one can escape.”. That last one is my FAVORITE; a diamond of truth. Thank you for writing Honest Suffering. ~~ djl

Yes! We all must let our personal sufferings speak, and even more so, pray for ears to hear the truth it shares. However many years a man may live, let him enjoy them all. But let him remember also the days of darkness, for they will be many. The conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep His commandments, for this is the whole duty of man. For God will bring every deed into judgement, including every secret thing, whether it is good or evil. You're correct, John. "It could never be otherwise." Wise and insightful words. Peace.... rlc

It's difficult to imagine anyone reading this, or better still, living in and out of its message could possibly be without a self-reflection and a wide eyed gaze at all the types of fraudulent beings making up a large portion of humankind. Substantial thoughts here, John. One can only hope many will read it.
