-- Hearts Polished Pure -- by John Herlihy Reality is but moments that pass Delicate, fragile, as brittle as glass Glass that may find itself shattered Broken to expose what mattered Eternal moments enter life’s realm The soul proud at the ship’s helm Today but tomorrow’s yesterday Tomorrow sees today pass away Each moment as seemingly real Human spirit life’s breath to steal Until the moment when all be gone Breath expired its rhythmic song What is time but a fleeting arrow At twilight’s end quiet the sparrow Death is but the blink of an eye As a dream under an eternal sky Then the true reality comes sure For all those hearts polished pure - - - - - Copyright © John Herlihy Monday 30 December 2024

It takes eons for nature to polish a red stone into a heart like in the picture. But it takes man only a few moments of his precious minutes on this planet to do the same.

Why your poem resonates both the temporary nature of life, yet the perfection that can be achieved in one life. Taking a little time to learn and perfect rather than letting it waste away.
