I Never Met the Love I Lost by John Herlihy I never met the beloved that I lost, Lost beyond all calculation of cost. Her perfume of absence filled the air, Her whispered words felt as prayer. The tinkle in her voice never heard, In cyber space only tweets of a bird. Her green eyes never seen in the light, Only the shadowy glimmer of moonlight. The phantom loss still feels as presence, A piece stolen away from my essence. On a ghost ship, destination unknown, Into the fabric of life’s tapestry sewn. In memory, I still her moods reckon, In the dark of night, her tears beckon. WONDERFUL WORK, MY FRIEND. ALL I CAN SAY IS...GOD HELP THE INDIVIDUAL WHO DOESN'T MEASURE-UP. BUT THEN, I SUPPOSE WE ALL HAVE THAT IMAGINARY PERFECT LOVE, WHO WE'VE NEVER MET AND AS LONG AS WE CAN KEEP THE TWO (REALITY AND IMAGINATION) SEPARATE, UNREALISTIC PROBLEMS DON'T ARISE. Because of my past experience in relationships, I couldn't help but ponder what might be the end game of my finding often the poetry I read as a relationship that is safer than some of us have weathered with live romance. Some of us, certainly you and I included, are romantics of multiple means of reality. Your poem is a proper dedication to that kind of romance that stays alive because it cannot be ended. Thank you for posting. I was in the perfect mood today to glean extra energy from your writing.
