Ah Such Bliss

by John Herlihy

Ah such bliss,

My soul in my hand to hold.

Never imagined this,

A feeling of blessing to unfold.

Ah such hardship,

After so many years to endure.

Silent prayer on the lip,

Polishing the soul until it is pure.

Ah such loss,

A blessing never to be retrieved.

Carried as a cross,

Suffering never before conceived.

Ah such sorrow,

Thrust into a deep dark well.

What then of tomorrow,

Only the unfolding future will tell.

Ah such regret,

So many mistakes unwittingly made.

Ah let me forget,

In asking for forgiveness, I have paid.

Ah this weary life,

Yet why is it that I lament.

Decisions, choices cut with a knife,

In a glorious life that I have spent.

Ah the hate, the deceit,

All that confronts us as odious.

Evil now lost in defeat,

Left behind, feelings of hope melodious.

Ah I see a gate,

Observed in the light of winter.

I patiently wait,

Until given permission to enter.

Very emotional. Death happens to us all. My only hope is that all of those downers don't happen and you go peacefully in your sleep like they write in obituaries. After they drugged their loved one to death to stop them from complaining.
