When the Day Is Done
by John Herlihy
The day was brilliant,
Now the light dwindling.
When the day is done,
And the shadows fall.
The night settles in,
After hidden from view.
I gaze at the stars,
Those aging specs of light.
With their wealth of mystery,
I wonder to myself.
What is it all about,
Sitting in this quiet darkness.
While rest assured, far out there,
In the deepest realm of night.
Lies the origin of the universe,
And the very meaning of life.
The earth turns from day into night,
The river of life flows onward.
Surrounded by vast Infinity,
Wrapped in timeless eternity.
Where without any limits,
And without any care.
The Divine Mystery prevails,
In the eternal day as prayer.

I, for one, like it the way it is, simply described by science and physics. Certainly don't want to be controlled by any god or gods, to their bidding. Just live out my life in peace and know that I will die unless fellow humans prolong my life with medical intervention all the way down to my DNA.
