When Truth Speaks to Power by John Herlihy Truth is powerful, But so are lies. Lies are powerful, Negating the truth. Power is powerful, In face of the truth. Power more powerful, If it buries the truth. In the balance, Of lies and truth Lies the force of falsity. THERE ARE TWO REALITIES HERE; TRUTH AND POWER WERE MADE FOR EACH OTHER. I LIKE THE METAPHOR OF TRUTH AND POWER WORKING WELL TOGETHER LIKE THE HOUR AND MINUTES OF A CLOCK. ON THE OTHER HAND...LIES PRESENT A PROBLEM FOR BOTH TRUTH AND POWER. IT WOULD BE GREAT IF THOSE IN A RESPONSIBLE LEADERSHIP POSITION LEARNED THESE REALITIES...JUST SAYING. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...HIS+INSPIRATIONS

I know they're good illustration of opposites that you do so well.

The devious, in order to maintain power, often find a way to reach the thoughts of followers rather than what the facts, bearing the truth, reveal. By creating lies that catered to those thoughts, and not the truth, power is maintained�

Until the truth breaks through and destroys the lie.

Reading between these insightful words, I'm struck once again (as it happens many times a day) by the number of false efforts and untruthful attempts to convince us that the lie is truth. Your poem brings forward several ways to deal with the persuasive power of saying or behaving with lies and how truth must dodge, thrust, and hold its ground is so important. Well said. Very timely poem. What is happening in the world now is frightening, but perhaps we can find a way to fight it with words reaching out to quench the lies with truth. The pen is mightier than the sword.
