All Dressed Up
by John Herlihy
All dressed up and nowhere to go,
A crisp white shirt, my tie in a bow.
Fully awake and ready for the day,
Head filled with plans, nothing to say.
Let me just sit back and take stock,
Allowing my mind and heart to unlock.,
Waiting for the day's prospects to open,
All my hopes and dreams to betoken.
My hair brushed back, then slicked down,
Ready to attack, feeling like a hound.
Yesterday was a bummer, but who cares,
I lay all my aspirations in my prayers.
One final thing, I need to brush my shoes,
Finally ready to read the day's latest news.
Now all dressed up, I do know where to go,
To all those places no one will ever know.

I often sing a couple lines from Marty Robbins's, A White Sport Coat. Really bad when you are young, dress up and then you're beautiful date, stands you up.
