Seeking Perfection

by John Herlihy

We at times feel something incomplete,

A hole there inside that needs to be filled.

I found a piece of the puzzle to complete,

When things fell into place, the heart stilled.

What happened? You didn’t know you lost,

With your finger on the pulse, witnessing.

Vanished without ever calculating the cost,

A piece of life’s jigsaw puzzle gone missing.

We think that everything in our lives is fine,

We all have our destiny, you yours, me mine.

The day arrives when you stand at an abyss,

Wondering what you lost, what will you miss.

In this world never perfect, always imperfect,

Always guessing what it means to be perfect.

THIS...EARTH...IS THE WRONG PLACE TO LOOK FOR PERFECTION. FOR IT CANNOT BE FOUND ANYWHERE DOWN HERE. 'PERFECTION'...IS ON THE OTHER SIDE, IN THAT PERFECT PLACE WHERE(STRIPPED OF THE WEIGHT OF 'FLESH') WE CAN AND WILL BE 'PERFECT'. MEANWHILE...WE 'TRY' TO REACH PERFECTION, RELYING ON MERCY AND GRACE TO COVER US WHEN WE MAKE AN 'HONEST' MISTAKE. THIS IS OUR 'REASONABLE SERVICE'...DOWN HERE. AMEN. THANKS, JOHN, ENJOYED. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...HIS+INSPIRATIONS

The imperfection of the world is perhaps why everything is as it should be... perfect. A lost piece of one's life puzzle is perhaps a lesson still needing to be learned. Enjoyed this immensely, John.

I really love this one! Throughout life, when we try to be perfect at something, we find someone who has perfected it even more. Life just is imperfect like you write, period.

I normally don't work on a poem very much. But the one I just posted, impelled me to pick it at it to get it more perfect than it already was. There's something to say for that and for those, like you, who try with every poem to get it as perfect as possible before posting.
