I’ll Keep Waiting
by John Herlihy
I am waiting and will continue to wait,
As I sit in the shadow of a nearby gate.
As time flows on to the coming hour,
Behold the bud opening into a flower.
Time listens without using its own voice,
Silence hears the beating heart rejoice.
Expectations pour forth as a fountain,
As the sun sits quietly on a mountain.
In time the sun will lay down to sleep,
Behind the rugged hills without a peep.
Flower petals fold up in respect to night,
The strange night graced with moonlight.
It’s hard to find love after it’s been taken,
The loved one now seen as one forsaken.
You forget of the last time together there,
The loved one gone, leaving behind despair.
To die with memories, not with dreams,
To have lived life and know what it means.
Don’t wait around for me, I’ll be all right,
I will just keep waiting here thru the night.
