If Ever Too Old to Dream

by John Herlihy

 

If ever I grow too old to dream,

I will still have you to remember.

Fickle dreams not what they seem,

Falling as autumn leaves in November.

 

Whenever I grow too old to stay behind

I will always have you to remember

The gift of your blessing as loving, kind

First day of January till end of December

 

If ever I grow too old and can no longer stay,

I will still have you clearly etched in my mind.

These treasured feelings time will never betray,

In a cruel world the one thing that remains kind.

 

If ever I grow too old, I will take my leave,

And I will take you with me to remember.

Leave all the emotions for others to grieve,

Free beyond time, no dream to remember.

WHAT A BLESSING IT IS TO HAVE SOMEONE WHO IS 'REAL' TO THINK ABOUT...WHEN OUR DREAMS ARE NO MORE A REALITY. AND, FOR ME, IT IS AS YOU SAY...ONE CAN NEVER LOSE THE COMFORT OF WHAT IS REAL...FOR, 'HE', WHO IS NOT A DREAM... WILL ALWAYS BE THERE. GREAT WORK, ENJOYED.
