Never Trust Happiness

by John Herlihy

I never trust happiness

I never did and I never will

Sadness, I do trust sadness

A sad heart remembers still

Here today, tomorrow gone

Simply vanished by magic wand

A joyful song sung to the end

With misery, no need to pretend

Sadness like a hand full of fingers

Touching sad notes as it lingers

With tender hands, we gather

All the pieces of a broken life

Feeling put back again together

Happiness never felt so right

The hard-luck road left behind

Room for happiness in my mind

I never trust happiness to stay

Knowing happiness will flit away

I AM ENTIRELY WITH YOU, JOHN...PENNED SO WELL. HAPPINESS...THAT FICKLE THING THAT STAYS BUT A MOMENT THEN BOWS OUT WITH A LASTING STING. GIVE ME JOY...THERE FOREVER...BEFORE, AFTER AND THROUGH EACH AND EVERY KIND OF PLOY. AMEN. JOHN, AN ENJOYED AND FINE WORK...IN EVERY WAY. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...HIS+INSPIRATIONS

Both happiness and sadness pass with time. But I've always learned that if you keep a happy attitude, you'll have more happy days than sad ones.

When life gives me lemons, I make lemonade (or maybe a margarita). And that glass is always half full, never half empty.

If I want to be happy, I'll marry an ugly woman.

But... you and you alone can bring back the happiness. I think I trust happiness, though, like your poem suggests, it can, and usually is, fleeting, due to the bombardment of sad events happening all around us. Giving space to the challenge of happiness is so vital in today's chaotic surroundings. Write on.

I'm bipolar. I never trust it when I'm feeling "happy." It usually means I'm going manic. Better to be merely content.

You Look FatCalgary by RickthePoetWarrior

Using Calgary as a backdrop the author satirizes the self-serving nature of the public as it continues to fatten itself, not only physically, but egotistically as well.
