Where Are You
by John Herlihy

Where are You—
Where, oh where?
Where to find You—
Where, oh where?

How to see You?
You are nowhere.
Now I see You—
You are everywhere.

Silence surrounds me,
Silence sounds of You.
My voice is sound;
Your voice is silence.

Do I hear You?
Do You hear me?
I listen to You;
Do You listen to me?

I will see You,
Because You are light.
I will love You,
Because You are love.

In my presence
Lies an absence;
In my absence
Lies a presence.

I am distance;
You are nearness.
I am shadow;
You are light.

In Your absence
Lies nothing;
In Your presence
Lies everything.

Who am I
If You are not there?
You are You
If I am not there.

I say: Where are You?
You are oh so far.
You say: I am with you—
Wherever you are.

AGAIN, I AM REMINDED OF THE WORD OF GOD. 'THE JUST SHALL LIVE BY FAITH'. 'FOR WITHOUT FAITH IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO PLEASE HIM!' WE WILL NOT HEAR HIM ALL THE TIME. WE WILL NOT FEEL HIM ALL THE TIME...WE WILL QUESTION SOMETIMES, BUT WE TRUST, BELIEVE AND AS OUR FAITH GROWS...WE PRESS ON! (JOB 23:8-10, PS 142, HEB 11:6, ROM 1:17). WONDERFUL, FULFILLING WORK. I WILL SAVE THIS. THANK YOU, JOHN. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...HIS+INSPIRATIONS

Like Richard, I see you grasping for evidence of some great designer under many names, but never found.

But from a personal point of view. I'm here. I have been here, but have been working hard to proof my latest book of short stories and create a timely cover for it. Unfortunately taking way too much time and not giving me much time to visit AD at all

The way you lay it out, closeness with the Creator seems a conundrum. I don't believe that. Feeling distant from God can stem from various things: life stress, grief, weariness, aging, sin, spiritual fatigue, etc.. One of the problems I've learned is equating closeness with God with how you feel. Still.... Holy Writ (in the Psalms) encourages acknowledging these feelings honestly, (which I believe you have here) and then turning to the Creator wholeheartedly in prayer, lament, and reflection. Recognizing the distance, I believe, is the first step to reconnecting. I wish the writer well. Peace.
