Sitting Still by John Herlihy What may arrive When sitting still Expecting nothing Letting go of will Suddenly calm Silent repose A living psalm The heart knows Diamond starlight Touches my face Otherwise night Beauty with grace A thought appears Then quickly fades The night air clears A dark moon wades A lack of sensation An abiding peace Gone all tension In a final release Loss of outer self New-found absence Feel the inner self New-found presence Thoughts as waves On darkened seas In mountain caves An unseeen breeze Mind finally stilled Nothing to conceal Mindfulness fulfilled Mysteries to reveal Solitude as the pivot Harmony the balance Stillness comes with it Without any variance I am the spirit, holy Breathe, listen, sit still Once a soul untouched Now by spirit touched This reality remember Above all things else This enduring ember This my living pulse - - - - - Copyright © John Herlihy Wednesday 24 December 2025
