A Place to Share

by John Herlihy

Some places feel like nothing else matters,

A place to go when your life lies in tatters.

A place so far secluded no one else knows,

The freshness of the air smelling as a rose.

Panoramic beauty striking flint in the soul,

A calm serenity that Mother Nature stole.

Offering an intimacy nothing else fathoms,

Drawn out of depths of deep-sea fathoms.

A place now drawn in so reluctant to leave,

Silence and birdsong woven into its weave.

A haven I found where I can always come,

To rest in seclusion that my heart has won.

In this place of solitude one can see forever

A place where loving hears will never sever

The only thing missing - someone else there,

With a loved one this beloved place to share.

Yes, oh, yes. For me, that place is a mountain ledge where I could at one time make camp for the night and be with the stars and the unencumbered air. Now days, the legs just won't let me visit, but my pics from many years of climbing rock are a welcome remembrance of my beloved place to share.

This poem struck me as very much two heart. All of those times I found places that were so unique and so beautiful that one would want to stay there forever.

But, because they were so beautiful and so remote, there was rarely anyone else there. And when I came there I had no one with me to share it with. Only, if I was lucky, a picture I took to show to someone much later.

Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts about the same thing that I have experienced.

Whether in a quiet room, a mountain cabin, a peaceful garden, or on a cliff overlooking the ocean - a place of solitude can be excellent for healing, reflecting, and reconnecting with yourself when life seems more whelming than nourishing. Having someone else with you can either enrich or disrupt the experience, depending on the quality of the connection, and the depth of your own inner life. Lord knows, we all need a soulmate. Someone who enriches our lives in ways words never can, where honest love, mutual growth, understanding, and a profound sense of belonging form the foundation of who you both are. Related to this John. A fine and sensitive expression. Thank you for sharing. Peace... r

My mom says ‘If you can’t say anything nice then don’t say anything’. Sorry mom but under the guise of poetic license I penned these beauties.
