Poem Artwork

“In an Ecological Pecking Order,

Man is Insignificant.”

Sir David Attenborough

If all Earth’s Mammals

Including Dogs Cats and Man

Suddenly ceased to exist tomorrow

This would not disrupt Creation’s Plan

The grass would continue to grow

The flowers and fruits would thrive

The forests would continue to reproduce

Sea creatures in the ocean would be alive

If Invertebrates disappeared tomorrow

Including spiders ants and butterflies

Entire Ecosystems on this planet

On both land and sea would collapse

And everything on this planet would die

―

These scientific facts

Can be a bitter pill to swallow

For our egomaniacal human brains

But if we thoroughly begin to digest them

We will begin to view all life on this planet

On a much much higher plain

Well it reminds me of our attempts to spray away the ticks because they get bad around our area. You know it was once asked would they mow lawns in Heaven? To which the answer was maybe that would be someone's idea of heaven to have a perfect lawn.

Ed,

The pic reminds me sooooo much of my dad--for years, he'd journey on the endless quest for a perfect lawn--finally, after battling the weeds and bugs, he let Chemlawn take over. And you know what? He still had weeds and bugs. :)

I live in an apartment complex; once a month, the management sprays for roaches. I rarely see one, anyway, if I do, I catch it (unless it's a waterbug--THOSE things creep me out) and toss it outside. If it's a waterbug, I gather my nerve, let it crawl into a container (praying all the while it doesn't go up the arm *EWWW GAD GAD GAD*) and toss it and said container out the door LOL. Spiders, nothing kills them 'round these parts LOL They say there are 5,000 species of spiders in the USA, and 4,999 of them live in Texas LOL I BELIEVE IT!!

There will always be bugs. Count on it.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla. :)

Very true. Just looking up at the moon, sometimes, makes me feel small. Well done.

Here today burning of yank flags cos the American Govenment and commerce won't sign up to kyoto, even though, American industry pollutes 2/3 of the world. And all in the name of money. So many can die with big bank accounts as Noahs days return.

I can see the normal caring American wants to help.

But commerce is too greedy.

Nature may sooner the we think, have its day.

Mankind doesn't have now, or ever will have the power to remove insects from this planet. Well unless all the planet is turned into turf, and the lawn guy comes LOL. Great underlying message though.

Yup, guess we're just a mere decoration, the icing on the cake, sent to enjoy what has lovingly been created for us to have use and management of... shame that the heart of man yields to power and control more fully than it does to nurture and respect. Eye-balling write, Ed, and one we would do well to reflect on. As for me, I'm just off to pump myself up with a bit of silicone, trim myself down with a bit of nip-and-tuck; to perk myself up with plenty of caffeine and E-numbers, and to calm meself down with a few barbiturates... ain't it so goooood to be alive!!??? Kosmetic Kate xx

We aren't that important for the survival of this planet, so I guess that must mean, we can destroy it anyway we can... Powerful message...
