Phoenix, AZ – May 22, 2006 – The long-awaited International Animal Writers & Illustrators Association (IAWIA) is now forming! This organization’s primary purpose is twofold:

1. to serve as a support group for writers, illustrators, and photographers who have devoted their careers to the investigation, broadcast, narration, and creative promotion of animal welfare.

2. to promote the welfare of animals throughout the world by the use of writing and artistic means; to raise the awareness and understanding of the importance of the humane treatment and preservation of all living creatures with fur, feathers, fins or hooves, domesticated or wild, plentiful or endangered; and accomplishing this all in a creative and inspired way. Some of the benefits of membership in IAWIA include:

~ Seminars on a wide variety of issues concerning animals and the writers and illustrators who specialize in animal subjects.

~ Competitions (writing, illustration, art, photography, and children’s contests).

~ Reviews and articles by your intellectual peers, upcoming events, and markets looking for your work.

~ Conservation and preservation news, concerning issues of animals and their environmental welfare.

~ Critique and peer review service.

~ Mentoring service.

~ Opportunities for wider exposure of members’ written, illustrative, and photographic works.

~ Special children’s section to help promote humane education and foster interest in the arts.
