Now last night this story on the news

My heart broke for this boy and his dog

And I can imagine his heartache and blues

A young boy and his beloved little pet

Out together for a pleasant evening walk

One minute they’re enjoying themselves

The next a strange man stops them to talk

When the young boy realizes what’s happening

He begs the man not to take his tiny Clementine

The man who cares little for anything but his profit

Ignores the boy’s plea – pet theft is this man’s crime

And it’s an extremely vicious escalating American crime

Two million pets now stolen every year across this vast land

They are sold to breeders research labs and dogfighters as bait

And my sorrow and shame increases at the inhumanity of man

We have very sadly become a nation

Where profit seems to be our only goal

Today we even rob our innocent children of joy

And I wonder if God will have mercy on our souls
