Muddy Sofa Blues

I guess I should have somehow realized

When I woke up from my night’s snooze

That this particularly dark and dreary mornin

Would bring those god-awful muddy sofa blues

†

The mutts and I awoke to the sound of heavy rain

It would be yet another very rainy northwood mornin

As the very stern Mistress of the Manor left for the day

She looked me right in the eye and shouted out her warnin

“Mr. Ed, I’m telling ya, you best keep your pals inside today,

I don’t wanna see any mud at all in my clean house – OK?!”

“Yes, Dear…”

But a few hours after the Mistress went out

I saw the sheer sadness in their doggy eyes

So without thinkin too much more about it

Me and the mutts all eagerly rushed outside

And what a fine time we all now had

Splashin and racin around out in that rain

But when we finally headed back indoors

I finally realized I’d once again lost my brain

Of course our now three extremely pooped out canines

Limped back to the sofa for a well deserved doggy nap

And before long the white sofa had turned a muddy grey

As I surveyed the crime scene all I could say was, “Crap…”

The terrified mutts and I are now hidin out in the tool shed

We know the Mistress of the Manor will soon be on the prowl

The only thing that frightens us in this vast deep dark woodland

Are the Mistress’s mad bellows of rage when she begins to howl

I guess I should have somehow realized

When I woke up from my night’s snooze

That this particularly dark and dreary mornin

Would bring those god-awful muddy sofa blues

†2007, In the Doghouse Yet Again, Mr. Ed

(But I’m Really Gettin Used to It,

I Must Have Been a Dog in Another Life)

Our fourth canine good old Turbo was smart enough

To stay inside and out of the mud puddles and the rain

He’s by far the most intelligent critter around these parts

As for me and the other three – We Are Definitely Insane

What a howlin' she-wolf that is. She knew you were a barbarian, right? How fortunate you have a tool shed. How fortunate your mutts can share in the tongue lashing. Mine look through the windows back inside while I get mine. Hilarious, Ed. This may be the year she gets you trimmed for summer if you aren't careful...Jerry

Enjoyed this much my friend, reminds me of my husband today he went rabbit hunting and of course my little Boomer wanted to come along for the fun. Before I realized what had happened upon his return home, he had opened the door welcoming Boomer inside and right beside of me on the bed was a my lovable little house terrior covered with burrs, smelling of the outdoors, her normally white and black fur was covered with dampness from the weeds and creek, and a bit of mud left on her feet from splashing through the creek! Before I could ask what were you thinking! Boomer gave me a quick kiss on the cheek, as if to say, I'm sorry. Boomer got a bath and Dennis has spent most of the day outdoors! So you're not alone my friend! Enjoyed this much, brought a smile to my face!
Blessings,
Joyce B.

Every time I go to a wedding....
I pull the groom aside and say "Son, there are two words you should learn quickly and use often,
YES DEAR."

I am totally, totally with Rebecca... Here's the mop and bucket... YOU bloody well clean it up... You've had your fun, now you can pay for it. Willow and I have a complete hose-down even when we've only been in dry white sand on the beach, let alone wading through the mud banks... And funny side?? Yes, I can see it... watching you lot with your tails between your legs for a week...

:)))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))) ROFL :)))))))))))))) Tee hee xoxoxoxooxx Oh, and the bathroom needs cleaning while you're at it... and don't forget to scrub and sterilise the trash cans ... (xx) I love you, too xx

I don't think i could say no to the characters in your picture either. Afew paw prints seems a small price to pay for such wonderful companions. Besides getting darker upholstry the Lady of the manor may wish to consider moving somewhere with no rain - Arizona for example. Goodluck & thanks for sharing this one.

Well, being both you and her I had to devise a way to let all enjoy the fun, and believe me Murphy with his six inch legs belly rubs easy and tonka with the six inch mountain fur just can't help but suck it up. So towels by the door are just a must and no one passes that entry way until they have their rub down. That and may I suggest a large king size quilt...lol...then you could just take that off just before...great little write...i hate the mud too, but I have no one to blame it on but myself. Lady J
