In Memory of My Father,

Who Passed Away,

Seven Years Ago Today

Can it really be

Seven years, since you went away

Can it really be

Since to me, it seems like yesterday

Can it really be

I will never again, get to see you

Can it really be

Why, today, I’m feelin so damned blue

Can it really be

No more of your hilarious jokes

Can it really be

No more of your aromatic cigar smoke

Can it really be

No more of your heroic WWII stories

Can it really be

No more teasin Mom, in all your glory

Can it really be

You won’t be carvin the next Thanksgiving turkey

Can it really be

Next Christmas, your presents, I won’t see under the tree

Can it really be

I’ll never again get to tease you, dressed in your suit and tie

Can it really be

No more of those rides to that bakery, for your favorite pie

Can it really be

No more of those emergency trips to the old hardware store

Can it really be

I will never again, get to hear you cuss out loud, and roar

Can it really be

We’ll never again, get to work on a project together

Can it really be

We can’t even have coffee, or chat about the weather

Can it really be

No more walks with you to our favorite old park

Can it really be

No more feedin those hungry ducks and meadowlarks

Can it really be

Nor more outrageous laughin, out on the lawn

Can it really be, Dear old Dad,

That you’re – really, really gone

Can it really be,

Why I’m feelin so sad,

Can it really be,

That I still miss you, Dad

I guess it really can,

Since to me,

Father,

You Were One Hell of a Man

Dear Ed,

This is a really moving tribute that reaches my soul because I just lost my father in June of this year. Some of my memories are different than the ones you have shared but some are just the same. Letting go, I believe, is one of Life's lessons yet it is always good to hold onto those loving memories.

Love & Light always and in all ways,
Joseph*

Time seems endless in our days of youth, seems that there will always be a tomorrow, but no one can be prepared for the loss of a parent no matter our age...just as no one can ever fill the emptiness that is left behind after a parent passes...a beautiful tribute that is heartfelt and warm filled with wonderful memories to be cherished! Reminds those whom still have their parents to cling tight and cherish them. A sincere and caring write dear friend!
Blessings,

Dear Mr. Ed,
No one else can fill that space--just keep it open for your Dad.
Your descriptions of a down-to-earth and dearly-loved Dad bring tears to my eyes. You've expressed the sadness so poignantly in these lines, that memories of my own Dad are rushing in. Thank you for sharing your heartache with your readers.

Sincerely,
Connie

Breathtaking. A marvelous tribute to a father. He must have been proud of you, ED. I should write one of this type to my Dad who believed in the power of knowledge even when every corner of the country was darkened by the shadow of ignorance.

Mr Ed-
Reading your tribute makes it Father's Day everyday when we appreciate and remember our Dads who made a difference in our lives.

Thank you and I hope I can be half of what your Dad is to you---to my son and daughter.

But the legacy, he lives---in you.

Aloha My Friend,
Myles

What a great tribute to your Dad. It is moving and poignant. This is what poetry is: Sharing our soul with the reader. You have done that well.

I wrote one the night before my Dad's funeral. Check it out if you have time. Title: The Final Journey

Don't worry Ed, he is up there, patiently waiting for the day when his little pal make his arrival, you think that you will come as a grown man, but in his eyes, you will be forever the little rascal that had his as his hero.
Wish he was mine too.

How many blokes are this fortunate to have a real man as a Father..
The is so very moving Ed. Leaves a lump in my throat, I can see he left a hole in your heart... Yet the hole still lets his sun shine through. One hell of a man, whom left one hell of a good bloke..
