That rascally old dog of mine truly loved my old ladder

She got real excited whenever I pulled it from the shed

And she always instinctively knew to keep her distance

Never wanting any debris or paint falling all over her head

In this particularly fond, frigid, old ladder/human mishap

It was probably at least 20 Below Zero, with the Wind Chill

The heavy snow on our roof had begun seeping into our home

And my wife had insisted that I stop the leaks – oh, what a thrill

As I bundled up, heading for that shed, to retrieve my ladder

That old dog already had a front row seat in our living room

And I could already tell from the silly expression on her face

That she fully expected me to very hilariously soon go ‘Boom!’

Well, she got her ardent wish much quicker then I’d ever expected

When I eventually moved that ladder in front of our picture window

As I neared the rooftop once again, I suddenly felt the ladder slipping

And within only a second or two, crashing into the living room, I did go

As my wife came rushing in, cursing and screaming at the icy, glassy mess

That comedic dog quickly began smiling, and then she kissed me on the chin

I soon found myself roaring out in laughter, when she danced off to the window

Smiling back at me as if to say, ‘That Was Great! Can You Please Do It Agin?’

I wasn’t laughing several hours later,

Still attempting to board up that window;

But as I sit here now, writing this, in this heat,

I really do miss that rascally old dog’s humor so

How I Also Laughed at His Story So;
