Far too many today still refuse to believe

That our planet’s diverse life forms are dying

The latest facts and statistics are extremely grim

If only more had cared, if only more had been trying

But we sadly live in a very self centered world today

In which Indifference and Greed and Profit now Rule

We callously march down a path of planet destruction

That Earth’s future children will sadly read of in school

Most of Earth’s Polar Bears will be gone by the year 2050

Ever thinning Arctic ice is making their environment into ‘sea’

Yet our current governmental leaders and politicians very ineptly

Haven’t even bothered to list Polar Bear as 'Endangered Species'

A delightful feathered shore bird which is called the Red Knot

Has been reduced from 100,000 birds in the 1980s to 15,000 today

Gross over harvesting of their main food source of horseshoe crabs

Continues because man wants to eat them and red knots have no say

Earth’s oceans are dying as the dreaded ‘Red Tide’ expands ever daily

Its many wondrous sea turtles find it more difficult to lay eggs in nests

Because modern coastal development pollution and beachfront lighting

Continue unabated as businessmen and developers reap profits with zest

And many scientists and biologists have now completed a massive study

In which they conclude that an imported parasite is killing our Honey Bees

It came to the U.S. from Australia in attempts to increase agricultural profit

Yet, mankind continues its arrogantly foolish Nature Manipulation with glee

 Far too many today still don’t even believe

That our planet’s diverse ecosystems are dying

The latest facts and statistics are extremely grim

These End of World days, we all should be crying

We very sadly live in a very self centered world today

In which Indifference and Greed and Profit truly Rule

And we blindly march down a path of planet destruction

That future children, if they survive, will read of in school
