Emerald Green

Some claim that it’s really a miracle

Some say the work of an old leprechaun

But every year, it turns an emerald green

And to me, it’s surely a thing to ponder on

And since I knew it would be happenin just yesterday

I woke my wife up at dawn, yellin at her to get dressed

And I quickly dragged her out to the car, in the wee hours

Proclaimin “It’s time fer some green!” and I said it with zest

And as we soon stood out there by that old river bank

Some fellers now began pourin orange juice into the water

And lo and behold, soon before our extremely startled eyes

That old river turned a brilliant green, and caused quite a stir

Even my still bleary-eyed wife very quickly proclaimed, ‘Holy Cow!’

And now all the folks gathered out here, on this very chilly river’s shore

Quickly began singin their Irish tunes, and gaily dancin all around in ecstasy

My wife startin dancin, too, sayin, “I truly never saw such a thing before!”

For nearly the last 50 years, a few short days before St. Paddy’s Day

The old Chicago River has quickly turned a truly brilliant emerald green

I explained to my wife that somehow that orange dye made this happen

But ever since childhood, I’ve known it’s a leprechaun, who is never seen

My Grandpa told me that,

And I still believe him,

Since Grandpas never lie.

And besides, lads and lassies,

That makes a much better tale,

Than just usin some orange dye.

ED - wonderful story!

Reminds me of an old tune -

"GLORIOUS! GLORIUS!
One keg o' beer for the four of us -
singin' Glory be to God, that there are no more of us,
the four of us will drink it all alone - damn near!

The Irish hate the Dutch, cause the Dutch eat cheese,
the G-D Dutch eat Limburger cheese - singin' -

GLORIUS! GLORIUS!
One keg o' beer for the four of us -
singin' Glory be to God, that there are no more of us,
the four of us will drink it all - damn near!

ERIN GO BRAGH! TOM.

Emerald stones are my fovorite stones, not blink-blink diamonts (because I am not a girl they are not my best friends)anf for your information, the Chicago river becomes green because my Leprechaums get drunk and their green clothes lose their die when they romp in the river...
