-A Five Part River Odyssey-

“On April 28, 1871,

A Monster is Seen,

Swimming in Lake Pepin.”

The Minnesota Almanac,

Published by The Historical Society

We had reached a favorite place

The Great River Road in Wisconsin

An extremely wide spot in the river

A place that is known as ‘Lake Pepin’

I’ve fished here many times over the years

It’s a spectacular area for bird watching, too

But you have to be extremely careful out here

Or the serpent known as ‘Pepie’ might get you

The native Dakota people who had lived on these shores

Refused to travel on Lake Pepin, in their birchbark canoes

For centuries, they believed in ‘The Legend of the Serpent’

Who would rise up from the depths, in the light of the moon

Many of the local area residents swear they’ve seen her

Like the creature in Loch Ness, they believe Pepie is real

Recently, the Tourism Bureau posted a $50,000 reward

If anyone can prove it, which is really a very sweet deal

So I timed our arrival at Lake Pepin, for just about dusk

With my camera all ready, and my dogs for Good Luck

But after perching on the bank, for an entire moonlit night

All we were able to spot, were a hawk and one little duck

But I Do Believe that old Pepie Really Is Out There;

And One of These Days, Into Her Eyes, I’m Gonna Stare.

Lake Pepin is the largest lake on the Mississippi River, over two miles wide, and 22 miles long. It forms the natural border between Minnesota and Wisconsin, and is located about 60 miles south of the Twin Cities.   Surrounded by scenic bluffs and quaint old villages, Lake Pepin is a wondrous place, and one that conjures up many fascinating old legends.

That's one big beach toy floating on your lake, either that or Pepie has swallowed everybody that's seen him! Has anybody made any money off this yet? What a beauty of a lake!

The problem dear brother is that if they catch the creature our beloved scientists will use their knives to see of what it's done.
Like the goose and the gold egg.
I am enjoying princely this trip without the need to take my butt from the comfortable padded chair in front of my PC.

Georg

PS. After Jersey comments on your last I have invited that smelly brother of us to come more near, say, 800 yards from my scope.
