“Perhaps the best Yuletide decoration,

Is being wreathed in smile.”

Author Unknown

I had spent most of the day

Decorating the pine outside

I had now finally finished

Tired, but filled with pride

I gathered our little family

As dusk was now closing in

As I turned the light switch on

Our Holiday Season would begin

And just as all the lights sparkled

He materialized out there on our tree

He seemed to be gazing at its new star

As he sang out, “Pretty, Pretty, Pretty!”

It was as if he, too, had been waiting

To see what this Christmas would bring

My wife and I smiled as we heard his song

Before darkness came, and he took to wing

And now I hope this tiny star gazer will return

And that he’ll visit all the Holiday Season long

We had soon decided he was the best ornament

With his very festive color, and his merry little song

And if we’re extremely fortunate this Season

He’ll bring his entire family, to visit our tree

A delightful Yuletide Chorus of little carolers

Would most definitely fill our hearts with glee

Is that picture the real event? Your lives are so festive and interesting compared to mine - but I have cardinals about my feeder here too - just no pretty snow!

Beautiful poem. LOve these lines:

We had soon decided he was the best ornament
With his very festive color, and his merry little song

I remember one Christmas where we found a bird's nest in our indoor Christmas tree...The kids wouldn't let us remove it because it was their favorite decoration.

The Cardinal is one of mother nature's most beautiful decorations, particularily at Christmas time. I saw one yesterday and thought the same thing.

Ed, I love the music you chose and the picture was cool, too, but your well woven words were of prime choice.

Mr. Cardinal was singing, "Pretty, pretty, pretty," because you did a good job decorating. :) Cheer up, cheer up, cheer up, you've been visited by my very favorite songbird. My new favorite from you. Beautifully penned, Ed. :)
