In Loving Memory,

Of My Dear Old Jessie

Not all pets are as lucky

As the new ‘Top Dog’ Bo

Far too many are homeless

Yet, pets enrich our lives so

This very week, May 3^rd – May 9^th

Has been designated ‘National Pet Week’

Please consider an adoption or a donation

Just a bit of kindness and love, they all seek

Donations to the American Veterinary Medical Foundation

Help pet victims of disasters such as wildfires and hurricanes

Donations to a humane organization or a local animal shelter

Help caring staff to house and feed them, and ease their pain

Please report any and all pet abuse, which you may encounter

Please help forlorn, wandering, or dumped pets, you may find

Please treat your own pets as real members of your own family

And please follow these Pet Commandments - for our furry kind

1. My life is likely to last only 10-15 years;

Any separation from you is very painful for me.

2. Give me time to understand what you want of me.

3. Place your trust in me; it is crucial for my well-being.

4. Don't be angry with me for long, and don't lock me up as punishment;

You have your work, your friends, your entertainment, but I have only you.

5. Talk to me, even if I don't understand your words;

I do understand your voice when speaking to me.

6. Be aware that however you treat me, I will never forget it.

7. Before you kick me, and before you punish me,

Remember that I could hurt you, and yet, I choose not to.

8. Before you scold me for being lazy or uncooperative,

Ask yourself if something might be bothering me;

Perhaps I'm not getting the right food,

Or I have an illness I can’t tell you about,

Or my heart is now getting old and weak.

9. Please take care of me when I grow old; you too, will grow old.

10. On the ultimate difficult journey ahead, go with me, please.

Never say you can't bear to watch. Don't make me face this alone;

Everything is easier for me, if you are there, because I love you.

I thought for a moment that was a photo of a cat coming out a dog's ear. You can be tricky, probably. Your poem reminds me of a surrounding personality at our house, Palmer Bettendorf, got him in Bettendorf, Iowa, near Palmer Chriopractic School, just before the local shelter would have put him under, half Labrador, half German Shorthair, didn't Jasmin say that was his breed, too? Palmer got his ear cut this week, and the vet charged $150, but nobody in the family would have it any other way than to see to his care...........Jerry

I think my favorite of these is number seven. Although I've never kicked a pet, I have at times become upset with one...and yet, how quickly they forgive...the meaning of true and unconditional love.

These commandments are just precious and with permission I would like to keep a copy posted up on my wall. Pets are precious and such a vital part of everyday living. I know I love all of mine dearly we make donations through Ryan Newman of NASCAR and through our own vet. God bless....

Oh Ed, those ten pet commandments, especially the last one makes me cry...& smile at the same time...Rufuz will NEVER want for love, he does everything with me, unless its too hot for him outside, & he goes everywhere with me, he loves to be with me as I do with him...ed
