“The mystic cords of memory,

Stretching from every battlefield

And patriot grave, to every living heart,

Should swell into a mighty chorus of remembrance,

Gratitude, and rededication, on this solemn occasion.”

Abraham Lincoln

Please stop whatever you’re doing,

At 3 P.M., on Memorial Monday;

It’s the ‘Moment of Remembrance,’

To honor those no longer here today.

To honor each of our valiant soldiers,

Who died in each of our bloody wars;

To honor those, who never came home,

Those, who cannot be with us, anymore.

It was established, based on a simple question,

To a group of young children from a grade school;

“What does the Memorial Day Holiday mean to you?”

They quickly answered, “It’s the day they open the pool.”

And it’s not only today’s children, who do not remember,

Only 28 percent of adults, know the meaning of this day;

What will you and your own children be doing at 3 P.M,

To Honor and Remember Them, This Memorial Holiday?

I asked our 12 year old grandson why we celebrate Memorial Day, happily he knew the answer.. Guess they are learning somthing in school.....M .. I try to talk to my grandchildren about the wars that have been fought and have made a list of family members who have served since the Revolutionary war....

Thank you, Ed. There should be a moment of silence each and every day so that none will ever forget that so many have died that we may know and live in freedom. God bless them all and the families who suffered so much, because of their loss.
Take care,
Sherry

3 p.m. I will remember that; surely as important as 3p.m. on Good Friday. Their sacrifice was ULTIMATE & Memorial! We can be sure God recognizes that and we should too - Gratefully it WILL be made up to each of them in & beyond Time.
..and I'll be thinking of my own Vet, my Dad.

Wonderful message, Mr. Ed. Indeed, how many DO remember? I wrote a poem on exactly this subject "Shouldn't We Tell The Children". Good job.

Will do, Ed. We, of this generation, should be especially cognizant of this day's meaning. Thank you for giving this day the solemn observance it deserves.

It is sad that this has come to be, our Memorial Day in Canada is called Rememberence Day and still very few show up for the Vetern's parades or the Centopaths to honour the old guard or salute the new. Freedom is easily taken for granted until it is threatened or eventually taken away...

As the daughter of, sister of, niece of, and cousin of, I will be remembering the sacrifices made and paid by our service men and women - those who didn't come home, those who did and yet suffer the repercussions of their service, and those who are in harm's way - thank you, Ed, for always remembering our troops and Veterans. I salute you, too.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

"Only 28 percent of adults, know the meaning of this day;"

I find this above fact disturbing...but then again self serving in many cases has become the motto...well said sir.

AMEN!! Memorial Day is about remembering our VETERANS, NOT going on picnics or sales!! Sad!!

(((HUGS))) and much love, your friend in Tx., Karen Lynn. :(

You BET I will remember; I have to! Twin sister is a veteran, daddy, his brothers were all veterans, and my brother is a veteran! Also have cousins who serve/served in the military (ALL branches)! So I have NO choice BUT to remember!! I'd BETTER, for my sake! LOLOLOL

It is sad we have to be reminded to remember... May the chorus sing of 'remembrance' from Sea to Shining Sea on this Memorial Day!
I will join in song.

A beautiful poem my friend and a wonderful reminder...we will be in school tomorrow due to the number of snow days we missed. I will be honored to tell my students all about the meaning of memorial day, I am a firm believer that what a teacher tells their students they will pass on to their parents...again a great reminder, beautiful indeed!
Blessings from Ky.
