Something In The Wood
“It is cunning.
As you travel on,
It is always behind your back.
No matter how quickly you turn,
It moves much faster.”

The great northwood has many legends
And one of them concerns Loup Garou
An early French explorer wrote about him
His encounter with a ‘Man-Wolf,’ in 1762
The Great Lakes Indians have many stories
About the night walkers, they call Wendigos
I think about these ancient tales and legends
Each and every time, to the northwood, I go
There have been many sightings of ‘Bear-Wolf’
In the deep woods of Minnesota and Wisconsin
And when I wander the pines of upper Michigan
I often think about their legends of the ‘Dog-Men’
Numerous witnesses describe seeing these eerie beings
On dark forested roads, near lakes, on moonlit nights
Whether all of these legends and tales are fact or fiction
I believe something in the northwood fills many with fright
And each and every time that I camp out under the stars
When I hear a distant howl across a lake, under the pines
I often start to wonder, if I’m hearing a lonely timber wolf
Or perhaps, an ancient being, of some very mysterious kind
