For just a few pennies savings, at the gas pump
To nature’s many wonders, devastation, we bring
There was a reason, for banning our offshore drilling
As we now kill Earth’s creatures of sea, land, and wing
We can start drilling everywhere, on all our coasts
And, we still will not have enough oil, for our needs
After we wreak havoc, on our nation’s natural wonders
We will be left with nothing, but our inherent human greed
Our leaders have known for many years now, we are ‘oil poor’
Despite this fact, they allow the oil companies to ‘Drill, Baby, Drill’
No matter how much we may drill, we will never, ever, have enough
And it’s our nonhuman neighbors, who are being force fed, a bitter pill
And, despite all the lies that we are force fed, offshore drilling, is not safe
It is obvious today, that we don’t even have the technology, to prevent this
Plans are already underway, to expand offshore drilling, along all of our coasts
We are living a lie, saving a few pennies at the pump, won’t give our nation bliss
It is time to raise your own political voice,
If you want to save, our natural wonders;
Remain silent, to save a few pennies more,
And soon, it will all be gone – ripped asunder.
Hundreds of fishermen and shrimpers on the Gulf Coast aren’t very excited about saving a few pennies at the pump, today – their entire livelihoods may now be gone – forever.
And hundreds of imperiled animal species along our Gulf Coast will now be tragically harmed and killed by this latest toxic spill - from whales and dolphins and manatees, to loggerhead, green, hawksbill, and Kemp's Ridley sea turtles, to the tiny Alabama beach mouse, mighty Gulf sturgeon, Atlantic bluefin tuna, wood stork, and the endangered piping plover.
The full extent of the horrific damage won't be known for some time to come, as this deep well oil continues to horrendously gush out at 5,000 barrels per day; and the response from the oil industry, and both federal and state agencies, appears largely ineffective to contain this latest devastating toxic spill.
